Connect GitHub and elean links pull requests, branches and commits to tasks by their key. Workflow rules then move tasks between statuses when something happens on GitHub — a branch is created, a pull request is opened, merged, or shipped in a release.

Connect GitHub

1

Open Integrations

Go to Workspace Settings → Integrations, find the GitHub card and click Connect.
2

Install the elean app

You’re redirected to GitHub. Pick your personal account or an organization, then choose All repositories or Only select repositories.
3

Back in elean

After installing, you land back in elean with GitHub connected. Click Configure on the GitHub card to see connected accounts.
You need the Manage Integrations permission in elean to connect GitHub.
If you’re not an owner of the GitHub organization, GitHub sends an installation request to the owners instead. elean shows Installation requested — GitHub is connected once an owner approves it.
To connect more accounts or organizations, click Add account on the GitHub page. To change which repositories elean can see, click Manage repository access on GitHub. Put the task key — for example ELEA-18 — anywhere in: Keys are case-insensitive, and one pull request or commit can mention several tasks. elean links it to each of them. Linked pull requests, branches and commits appear in the Development section of the task, with the pull request state (open, draft, merged, closed). Every link is also recorded in the task’s Activity. To remove a wrong link, hover over it and click Unlink from task. People who push code don’t need an elean account — linking only needs the key.

Workflow rules

Rules move a task to a status of your choice when something happens on GitHub. Set them per project in Project settings → GitHub. For each trigger, choose a status or Do nothing. Recommended setup fills in a sensible start: Pull request merged → Done, Branch created → In Progress, Pull request opened → In Progress. By default a rule only moves a task forward — a late event never drags a finished task back. Turn on Can move back for a rule that should, for example when a reopened pull request should return the task to In Progress. Archived tasks are never moved. Status changes made by a rule show in the task’s Activity as done by GitHub, with a link to the pull request, branch or release that caused them.

Release published

When you publish a release on GitHub, elean finds every pull request merged into the default branch since the previous release and moves the linked tasks — useful for a Shipped status that’s separate from Done.
  • Only published releases count. Drafts and pre-releases are ignored.
  • The first release in a repository is skipped, because there’s no previous release to compare against.

Git menu

The Git button in the task header gives you:
  • Copy branch name — a branch name with the task key, e.g. elea-18-fix-login-redirect.
  • Copy git command — the same branch as a ready git checkout -b … command.
  • Create branch on GitHub — creates the branch from the repository’s default branch. With more than one repository connected, pick the repository first.

Plans

Disconnect

Go to Workspace Settings → Integrations → GitHub → Configure and click Disconnect next to the account. This uninstalls the elean app from that account on GitHub. Pull requests and commits already linked to tasks stay visible. Uninstalling the app directly on GitHub has the same effect.

Troubleshooting

Check that the task key is in the branch name, title or description, and that the repository is included in the app’s repository access on GitHub.
The app installation needs Contents: Read & write. When elean asks for new permissions, an owner of the GitHub account has to accept them on the installation.
Rules only move tasks forward unless Can move back is on. The task may already be at or past the target status, or it may be archived.
